“Is that Snoop Dog?!”: Man caught with fake passenger in carpool lane

A US motorist has been handed a traffic infringement after police found him using a dummy to drive in the carpool lane.

Not only did his hilarious attempt to bypass morning traffic with the fake passenger whose goatee was "just a little too sharp" get him fined, he helped authorities answer the common question: “If I have a mannequin in the passenger seat, does that count as a second occupant in the vehicle?

"The answer is simple… NO."

According to an Instagram post shared by the California Highway Patrol Santa Fe Spring, authorities stopped the unnamed driver for crossing a double line when they noticed the plastic passenger.

"Officer Kaplan made an enforcement stop on this vehicle for crossing solid double lines only to realise the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle with their plastic friend," they wrote.

The mannequin in question had a human-like mask, sported a hoodie and sunglasses, and was seated upright with his seatbelt buckled in just like any other passenger.

And he would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for the fake facial hair.

"The goatee was sharp … just a little too sharp," they shared.

"We've gotta give it to them, the appearance is next-level modelling but at the end of the day ... plastic is plastic."
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; “Absolute monster”: Bridezilla slammed for unreasonable bridesmaid rules

A woman has shared the reason she quit her best friend’s bridal party, after she was presented with a 14-page contract to be a bridesmaid.

The woman was excited to celebrate her friend Laura’s wedding to the love of her life James, and shared how Laura was a very regimented bride.

“We began planning everything, having multiple meetings to make sure we all are up to date on all plans,” the bridesmaid said in a Reddit thread.

“She is a bit of a neat person and very organised. She made all five bridesmaids and her maid of honour a binder of our duties... We keep track of appointments, vendors — pretty standard stuff.”

“But that’s not all that’s in there.”

The bridesmaid then shared an extensive list of rules the bridal party had to follow for the big day in relation to their physical appearance.

The list included 12 bizarre rules about how they were to look on the big day, saying everyone must wear size-eight dresses, tattoos must be covered or removed and brown eyes are banned.

“No visible tattoos. Must be removed or covered with makeup. No jackets or long sleeves to cover them,” the bride began in the extensive list.

“Full head of hair. No shaved sides or back. Must have a professional wig on if a haircut is not acceptable.”

“Hair can not be too short. It must be able to be braided. Also if your hair is too long like to your waist, it will need to be cut. Hair must be blonde or black. I will tell you what colour is best for you.

“You must fit into a size eight dress. I don’t want to see tents (too big) or rolls (too tight). Dresses have been ordered at size eight only.”

“No brown eyes. That’s James’ and my eye colour so you will need to get contacts. Blue is required.”

Other things banned in the bridal party are “harsh tans”, visible scars and eyeglasses.

“Get contacts or go without for the day,” the bride added.

The bridesmaid felt the rules were directed at her, as she was furious with her friend and decided to leave the bridal party.

“Here is where I started to backpedal and want to walk away,” she said.

“I have very thick but fine hair. I keep the sides shaved down and the top and back long like halfway down my back which helps my migraines.”

“I also have an Eeyore tattoo and a bear paw print tattoo that shows. I also just had bariatric (gastric sleeve) surgery so I’m working on losing weight. I also have glasses.”

Upon looking through the contract, she was mortified to see what the bride expected of her bridesmaids.

“The final kick in the pants was the contract — 14 pages front and back of everything we are required to do. Like not getting pregnant, attend meetings and events, as well as constantly communicate,” the bridesmaid said.

Along with the demands, the bridesmaids were each required to gift the bride and groom a minimum of $150 and “some type of expensive alcohol”, along with a $400 fee to be a bridesmaid.

“I tried to explain I can’t afford this and she told me I had to figure it out. I figured she lost a bridesmaid, me.”

In a follow-up post, the bridesmaid confirmed she was no longer in the bridal party after she quit.

“I am not doing the wedding. The bride is mad but I don’t care,” she said.

Her post has been met with more than 640 comments, with many describing the bride as an “absolute monster”, “cruel” and a “bully” over her outrageous demands.

Image credits: Getty Images / Reddit

Leaker of gruesome shark attack photo revealed

The New South Wales Ambulance Service is facing criticism and backlash after a staff member leaked a graphic image of the wounded leg of Sydney shark attack victim Lauren O'Neill.

The incident occurred after O'Neill fell victim to a bull shark attack in Sydney Harbour, just metres away from her residence. This breach of privacy has not only added to the distress of O'Neill and her loved ones but has raised serious concerns about the protection of patient confidentiality.

The graphic image, taken inside the emergency room as medical professionals worked to stabilise O'Neill, was shared online by a member of the NSW Ambulance staff. This action not only violates the fundamental principle of patient privacy but also calls into question the ethical conduct expected from healthcare professionals in such sensitive situations.

NSW Ambulance issued a public apology, acknowledging the breach of privacy and expressing sincere regret for the additional distress caused to O'Neill and her family.

The statement also revealed that discussions with O'Neill's family led them to believe that a NSW Ambulance staff member was responsible for the privacy breach.

“NSW Ambulance sincerely apologises to Ms O’Neill for the breach of her privacy and the additional distress it has caused her and her loved ones at this most difficult time,” a spokesperson said. “We spoke with Ms O’Neill’s family this afternoon and informed them that we believe a NSW Ambulance staff member was responsible for the breach of her privacy.

“NSW Ambulance takes its patient privacy obligations very seriously and is continuing to investigate this breach to determine the full details of the incident.”

St Vincent's Hospital, where Ms. O'Neill was taken for urgent medical attention, has launched its own investigation into the matter, along with the involvement of NSW Police. The gravity of the situation is underscored by the fact that O'Neill's right leg was in jeopardy, and the medical teams worked tirelessly to save it.

O'Neill, a microbiologist, has expressed her gratitude to the heroic neighbours, to NSW Ambulance paramedics, Kings Cross Police and the surgical teams at St Vincent's Hospital for their swift and caring actions. However, the unfortunate leak of the graphic image has marred what should have been a focus on her recovery and gratitude towards those who aided her in the aftermath of the terrifying attack.

As O'Neill transitions from the Intensive Care Unit to a recovery ward, it is crucial for the public to reflect on the importance of patient privacy and the trust placed in healthcare professionals during moments of vulnerability. The breach has sparked outrage among the public, with many demanding accountability and stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Images: Instagram

Leaked photo of Sydney shark victim sparks urgent probe

The sanctity of patient privacy has come under scrutiny at Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital following the leak of a graphic photograph depicting the treatment of shark attack victim Lauren O'Neill.

The 29-year-old suffered a serious injury after being attacked by a bull shark near a private wharf in Elizabeth Bay, sparking both a medical and privacy crisis.

The photograph in question, which we are not going to publish, shows Ms O'Neill's uncovered leg being attended to by medical staff, and has stirred concerns about the vulnerability of patient privacy in the digital age. St Vincent's Hospital has launched a comprehensive investigation into the breach, expressing deep regret and extending apologies to Ms O'Neill.

"St Vincent’s has become aware of photos in the public domain that appear to have been taken in the Emergency Department and are related to those of a patient injury," said hospital spokesperson David Faktor.

"We have sincerely apologised for any part St Vincent’s played in the photos being taken."

The investigation aims to uncover the identity of the person responsible for taking the photograph and how it ended up in the public domain. Faktor aptly described the incident as a "wake-up call", highlighting the ease with which privacy can be compromised in today's digital landscape.

Ms O'Neill, who is on track for a full recovery, expressed her gratitude to the heroic neighbours, emergency services and medical professionals who aided her. However, her appreciation comes amid the distressing breach of her privacy during a vulnerable moment.

As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial for St Vincent's Hospital to implement robust protocols and security measures to prevent future breaches and reassure the public of their commitment to patient confidentiality.

Images: Instagram

A 29-year-old woman may lose her leg after being bitten by a bull shark while swimming in Sydney Harbour.

On Monday night, Lauren O'Neill went for an evening swim near a private wharf in Elizabeth Bay when she was attacked by the shark, screaming out to neighbours for help.

Michael Porter told NCA NewsWire he had just gotten home from work when he heard the woman’s scream.

“I saw Lauren climbing out of the Harbour on the ladder and she was sort of pulling herself up quite weakly, she didn’t have much strength and there was a whole pool of red blood in the Harbour,” Mr Porter said.

“Her leg was limp.”

An ambulance was called and transported Lauren to St Vincent's Hospital, where she remains with "serious injuries".

While her condition is stable, the 29-year-old is facing the possibility of losing her leg.

Marine biologist Lawrence Chlebeck told news.com.au it was “highly likely” to be a bull shark that bit Ms O'Neill, and warned people against swimming in the harbour, particularly in low light.

“Bull sharks know they can come into Sydney Harbour and score an opportunistic feed,” he said.

“If they can’t see or the water is cloudy, these animals will bite just to determine what something is and whether it’s prey. Unfortunately, Sydney Harbour after dusk is simply not a safe place to swim.”

Image credits: Instagram / Nine News

"Disgraced actor, bully, monster": Craig McLachlan opens up on assault allegations

Craig McLachlan has opened up about how the incident assault trial took a toll on his mental health and career.

The former Neighbours actor was charged with seven counts of indecent assault and six of common law assault in 2019, after four women, who he starred alongside with in the stage production of the Rocky Horror Show came forward.

McLachlan has long denied the allegations, and was eventually cleared of all charges.

Now, the former actor is appearing on the new season of SAS Australia, and has spoken candidly about how his life changed after the trial.

“When I started on Neighbours, I was in people’s lounge rooms night after night, day after day,” he told SAS producers.

“But there was something that happened about five years ago that was shocking for the public and shocking for me."

“Craig McLachlan, disgraced actor. Workplace bully, monster.

“So I’m here to exorcise some pretty extreme pain with some pretty extreme pain.”

Speaking with SAS Chief Instructor Ant Middleton and DS Jamie ‘Jay’ Morton, McLachlan said he is still angry about what happened, and carries a lot of emotional weight from the trial.

"I suffer extreme social anxiety. I find it very difficult to trust situations where there are a lot of people, especially women."

“I’m more anxious about being in a new group of people than I am about climbing up the side of a mountain."

“I know that sounds bizarre, but for me, I’m afraid it’s true.”

Middleton sensed McLachlan was becoming angry when talking about the case, to which McLachlan responded, "I was charged with 14, 15, 16 offences ... It’s one thing to be so publicly crucified, it’s another thing to be charged. I was found not guilty of any wrongful behaviour. It’s because I was f***ing innocent ... I’ve been profoundly hurt, so there’s always going to be some residual anger."

McLachlan went on to share how he was "abandoned" by close friends in the entertainment world when the allegations first came to light.

He said, "People who only months before looked me in the eye and said 'You create the most wonderful work environments imaginable' ... abandonment, total abandonment. A tiny handful of courageous people I have friendships with over 30 years were always there, but the vast majority - gone."

He said the abandonment from his friends "really f**king hurt", to which the SAS team told him he has "gotta let it go".

"That’s why I’m here," McLachlan said.

"For me, the big takeaway from this experience will be moving forward, to find that I can function without anger and fear. But beyond that, learning to trust people again."

Image credits: Channel Seven - SAS Australia

Loch Ness monster back in headlines after "most exciting" photo in decades

A recent potential Loch Ness monster sighting has generated immense excitement among monster enthusiasts, who claim these photographs are the most captivating seen in decades.

The incident unfolded when Chie Kelly, 51, inadvertently captured images of an unidentified, sizeable creature gliding across the surface of Loch Ness five years ago in August.

At the time, she hesitated to release the images, fearing public ridicule. However, her decision changed after the largest 'Nessie' search in over half a century took place last month – called The Quest Weekend.

Kelly, accompanied by her family, was enjoying a meal at an inn nestled on the shores of the Scottish loch when she began snapping photos.

According to the Lochness.com website, Chie Kelly "had lunch in the Dores Inn and then started walking around. I was just taking pictures with my Canon camera of Scott and our daughter Alisa, who was then five, when about 200 metres from the shore, moving right to left at a steady speed was this creature.

"It was spinning and rolling at times. We never saw a head or neck. After a couple of minutes, it just disappeared and we never saw it again.

"At first I wondered if it was an otter or a pair of otters or a seal, but we never saw a head and it never came up again for air.

"It was making this strange movement on the surface. We did not hear any sound. There were these strange shapes below the surface. I could not make out any colours – the water was dark. I could not accurately assess its length, but the two parts that were visible were less than two metres long together.

"I don’t know what it was, but it was definitely a creature – an animal. At the time I did not want to face public ridicule by making the photographs public. But I met Steve Feltham at the weekend and showed him the images, and he said immediately that they were ‘very interesting’.”

Feltham has dedicated more than 30 years to the search for Nessie since abandoning his job and selling his house in 1991. After looking at the images, he said, “These are the most exciting surface pictures I have seen. They are exactly the type of pictures I have been wanting to take for three decades.

"It is rare to see something so clear on the surface. They are vindication for all the people who believe there is something unexplained in Loch Ness. They are remarkable. I have studied them and still do not know what it is. "Get out of the water!" Huge shark spotted at crowded beach

Dramatic footage has revealed the moment a shark was spotted swimming in shallow waters at a crowded beach in Florida.

In the video filmed at Navarre beach on Monday, a sizeable fin can be spotted zipping past swimmers as panicked onlookers screamed for them to get out.

"Get out of the water!" one person screamed, as stunned swimmers ran for their lives.

However there was an eerie lack of urgency for a few others who took their time exiting the waters, with no worries whatsoever to the frustration of a bystander who commented: "They're still out there."

Cristy Cox, who filmed the footage, told the Pensacola News Journal that the shark was simply chasing a fish, but warned people to be aware of their surroundings.

“It all happened so fast! A dolphin was actually side by side with the shark at first and then just disappeared,” she said.

“The shark was just trying to feed as they are expected and just passed by swimmers.

“Everyone was stunned as it moved down the beach chasing the school of fish. We all just have to remember this is natural and we are in their home, so stay alert!”

Beach Safety Director Austin Turnbill confirmed to the publication that a shark had been spotted at the beach, but for people to not be alarmed.

“There’s sharks in the Gulf, everywhere. We see sharks almost every day and there’s nothing to be alarmed of for 99.9% of the time,” he said.

Image: Cristy Cox Facebook

Don't get caught out: 6 holiday scams ripping off travellers

If you’re planning to take a trip across the world soon, then be warned, as there is an influx of new holiday scams affecting tourists as they travel to their dream break.

Holiday-makers have money to spend and relaxation on their minds, which is why they are seen as easy targets for con artists.

UK-based consumer group Which? has listed the six most common frauds travellers need to be aware of, along with tips on how to avoid getting scammed, The Sun reported.

So, if you’re planning a trip abroad, here are the things you need to watch out for:

1. Accommodation booking scams

While the introduction of the internet has been a blessing in terms of ease, it’s also made it easier for scammers to lure you into their traps. With the growth of online holiday bookings, fraudsters often need nothing more than a few fake pictures to lure their victims.

A common scam is one that includes picturesque photographs of holiday rentals that don’t seem to exist, advertised at affordable price points. The deals were often advertised on mainstream websites but asked those who were interested in booking to contact them via email, rather than use the site’s own booking system.

Bookers were then sent a link to a convincing payment page, which suggested the payment hadn’t cleared. They then ask for a bank transfer instead.

How to protect yourself: Do your research. Google the property to see if it shows up on other reputable websites to check its authenticity. You could use Google Maps and Street View to see if the accommodation actually exists. Also, never pay by bank transfer.

2. Dodgy flight deals

Con artists have created fake airline websites that advertise budget deals on long haul flights that leave their victims high and dry.

The UK government’s fraud agency has reported a recent surge of scams targeting those who are travelling to Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

In many instances, tickets were purchased with stolen credit cards and then sold to unsuspecting victims, complete with a reference number.

But tickets were then cancelled after the credit card was reported as stolen, leaving the victims out of pocket and nothing to show for it.

How to protect yourself: Book tickets through trusted agencies.

3. Wi-Fi hacks

It’s become human instinct to try and find Wi-Fi wherever you go, and the same applies when travellers land at airports.

While it’s important to stay connected in order to get in touch with friends and family, there is a risk involved. Fraudsters have set up their own free networks in airports and use them to gain free information about anyone that logs on.

Many passengers have been tricked into entering their credit card details before logging on.

How to protect yourself: Ask airport staff about the real Wi-Fi connection to make sure it’s the real deal and be on the lookout for connections that don’t ask for passwords straight away. Also, if you are asked for confidential information then provide fake details where possible.

4. “Free” holidays

This decade-long scam has been one that con artists have perfected throughout the years. Back in the day, people would be pressured into buying timeshares after accepting a complimentary break.

Now, the con is conducted through scratch cards and other fake competitions.

In one example of the scam, around 500 British travellers in Spain’s Costa del Sol have been scammed of around $27.5 million in the last year alone.

How to protect yourself: Refuse all offers of free holidays because if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is.

Do you know of any other travel scams? Let us know in the comments below.

5. Document fraud

Over the years, the internet has seen a growth in websites selling fake travel visas and other important documents needed to visit foreign countries.

A few cases were found to not be conducting illegal activity but were responsible for reselling documents at a huge premium compared to official channels.

Some common examples included websites selling the European Health Insurance Card and US visa (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation, or ESTA) documents.

While the sites looked extremely convincing, they had nothing to do with the governments of the countries they claimed to represent.

According to Which?, out of the top 20 search results for “ESTA visa” over half were unofficial.

How to protect yourself: Follow links to official government websites through the Department of Foreign Affairs website.

6. Fake tickets

It’s no secret that music concerts and major sporting events are on top of the list of potential scams, but travellers are now falling victim to fake packages to international events and are only finding out the true worth of their ticket once they arrive in the country.

The FIFA World Cup in Russia was one example where countless websites offered travel packages including tickets when the only tickets that were considered valid and authentic were the ones purchased directly from FIFA themselves.

Scammers love to lure desperate fans with fake tickets, as they know the demand is high and it’s easy to trap people who are willing to go the extra mile for a ticket to their chosen event.

How to protect yourself: Make sure the tickets you are purchasing are from legitimate websites and web pages that start with “https” and have the padlock symbol in the URL bar. And if you’re on the hunt for second-hand tickets, then do a quick check if whether or not resale is allowed, as some tickets are only valid for the original buyer.

“Criminals are finding ever more sophisticated ways to dupe holiday-makers, both in the booking process and when they’re on the holiday itself,” Which? Travel editor Rory Boland said.

“If something seems too good to be true, it almost certainly is. Don’t hand your money over until you can be sure it’s the real deal.”

Images: Getty

Iconic Aussie author caught up in bizarre book ban

Australian author Mem Fox, best known for her iconic Possum Magic book, has become the latest writer caught up in Florida’s wave of book bans.

Her 1988 release Guess What? is the target, facing the ban in schools throughout Duval County over allegations of “pornography” in its depictions of nudity.

The 2022 Florida law, part of the parental rights in conservative governor Ron DeSanti’s education bill, prohibits adults from distributing on school premises any content “of a person or portion of the human body which depicts nudity or sexual conduct, sexual excitement, sexual battery, bestiality, or sadomasochistic abuse and which is harmful to minors".

Punishment for not complying includes a third-degree felony, which can mean a prison sentence of up to five years for any individual caught.

The book asks children to guess the identity of character Daisy O’Grady with a series of questions - all yes or no - before finally revealing that she’s actually a witch.

Illustrations through Guess What? - created by illustrator Vivienne Goodman - see Daisy going about her day-to-day routine, including one key ‘problem’ activity: taking a bath.

It’s this scene that caused the trouble for Fox, with some dubbing it “pornographic”.

However, it isn’t the first time that Guess What? has come into question for its depictions - past reviews took issue with its images of dead fish in underwear as well.

Fox doesn’t seem too concerned about the ban though, with her agent even telling The Guardian that “Duval County is a county of 997,000 people in Florida. It is not important."

As Fox herself said on ABC Radio, “it's pitiful, isn't it? It's like, the Americans keep killing each other with guns and then they do things like this as well.

"You just feel sorry for them, you just think, 'people, you're so unsophisticated, you're so pitiful'.”

She went on to note that Americans had treated her well in the past, in her 100-plus visits to the country over the course of her career.

"They were so kind to me, they were so, so good, so generous, so warm-hearted, so affirming,” she said. “I just grieve for them.”

And when it came to the bath time scene, she was firm in her stance that it is “completely appropriate.

"She's washing herself, she's sort of sitting in this sink, you can't see any of her private parts at all.

"The whole book is about guessing who this person is, it turns out to be a witch in the end."

Images: Getty, Facebook

Woman “sickened” over tradie’s gross act caught on CCTV

CCTV inside a Brisbane woman’s home has captured the shocking moment a plumber was snooping through her bedroom, and the “sickening” act he committed.

The plumber, who was recommended by the woman’s friend, was called in to fix the bathroom’s toilet and shower.

But when the woman checked her security cameras, she found out that instead of doing his job, he was up to no good.

Footage shows the man in the woman’s bedroom, allegedly going through her drawers, before heading to the kitchen and taking utensils from there.

The plumber then allegedly used a wooden rolling pin to fix the toilet before putting the dirty utensil back, unwashed.

"I'm really upset by this… how many other people has he done this to?" she told 9News.

"I'm sickened by him using my utensils on my toilet," she said.

The woman also said that the lack of hygiene could make someone “desperately ill” and that she’s mostly “sickened about the cleanliness issues”.

The distressed homeowner also alleged that a pair of earrings located near her bedside table also went missing after the incident.

“It’s so personal, your bedroom drawers are so personal and there’s a camera like half a metre from his face,” she said.

The incident has since been reported and the tradie, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Images: Channel 9/ 9News

Outrage after Aus Post driver caught parking in disability spot

A Queensland Australian Post worker has sparked outrage after parking his car at a shopping centre car park, leading to a quick response from the company.

A disgruntled Karalee local saw the Aus Post van parked in the disability spot and said the contractor’s “unacceptable” act led to an elderly woman missing out on the much-needed spot.

Posting to the Australian Disability Parking Wall of Shame Facebook page, the woman wrote, "Driver’s laziness led to elderly lady with a permit having to park opposite and hobble across the road."

The van was parked outside the Karalee Chempro Chemist.

The post prompted many to weigh in, with some users bringing up other Australia Post parking concerns they’ve seen around their local areas.

“At my local shops here in Perth one of the thatched areas besides an ACROD bay is marked that Australia Post vehicles are permitted to park in it which I also believe is wrong and this is definitely inexcusable," one man wrote.

The Facebook post has since been deleted.

Australia Post issued an apology as soon as they were made aware of the situation.

"We sincerely apologise for the actions of this delivery contractor and any inconvenience caused," an Australia Post spokesperson said in a statement.

"This lapse in judgement falls well below the high standards we expect of our team members.

"It’s especially disappointing given Australia Post prides itself on its commitment to inclusion and diversity both across our workforce and within our communities. We’ve spoken to the contractor and taken steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

According to Yahoo, both the man driving the van and all Australia Post contractors copped a strong reminder that they cannot park in disability spots without a permit.

Cruise ship employee caught filming women in bathroom

Some people are determined to ruin everything for everyone, but these adamant cruise ship passengers were not about to let that be the case for their holiday.

While onboard what should have been a relaxing cruise with MSC, female passengers made the horrific discovery that a member of staff was hiding in a women’s bathroom stall and recording those who were in there. To make matters worse, the bathroom was located next to the ship’s Kid’s Club.

One of the passengers, a woman named Saja, shared footage of the moment she and some others - along with a member of the ship’s housekeeping team - confronted the Peeping Tom.

In the clip, the housekeeping employee can be seen knocking on the stall’s door, but after backing away, another passenger took it upon herself to continue the work of trying to lure the man out.

It worked, and the man - dressed in an MSC employee uniform - eventually cracked open the door, admitting “I was wrong.”

“You need to call security,” one passenger said, “because he’s an employee.”

“He was filming you?” another passenger, who had come upon the scene, asked. Saja confirmed that he had been.

“I just saw a camera pointing at me,” she went on to explain, before the footage wraps up after it was suggested she “get the guy’s name”.

According to the text across the video, this was the third incident of unauthorised filming to occur that evening.

Saja later shared an update to her TikTok account, writing that the man had been removed from the ship, and that her goal had not been to bring shame down upon the cruise line, but instead to raise awareness, in the hope of protecting anyone else who might consider such a situation on their next trip.

“I have been contacted by authorities and have been informed that the gentleman in the video has been deported. My goal is NOT to disgrace a cruise line for the acts of one of their employees,” she stated, before going on to stress that she and her companions had had a great time otherwise, and that the rest of the ship’s crew had been wonderful, as “some of the best staff I had the privilege of meeting.”

“I have not been compensated in any way shape or form, or had contact with the cruise line,” she wrote for the update, “nor am I interested. Just wanted to spread awareness.”

Images: TikTok

Jennifer Lopez caught chastising “miserable” Ben Affleck

The prestigious Grammy Awards are never without their share of drama, and the 2023 show has proven to be no exception.

American singer, actress, and dancer Jennifer Lopez was there to present the award for Best Pop Vocal Album, and brought her husband Ben Affleck along as her date. But it was their time in the audience that caught the attention of eagle-eyed viewers, and propelled an exchange between the pair to viral heights.

Affleck, who is no stranger to being the subject of “miserable” internet memes, became the focus of such attention all over again with his attendance at the ceremony. While he was there to support his wife and celebrate the other artists at Crypto.com Arena, Ben spent his night appearing as though he’d rather be anywhere else.

As one Buzzfeed editor put it, “however bad of a day you’re having, I promise you’re not as miserable as Ben Affleck at the Grammys right now.”

“Someone please check on Ben Affleck,” Chicks in the Office podcast tweeted.

Later in the night, that same podcast suggested a save for the struggling actor, “Ben Affleck, blink if you're okay.”

Ben Affleck, blink if you're okay #Grammys pic.twitter.com/qO6xBPAbXl

— Chicks in the Office (@ChicksInTheOff) February 6, 2023

As social media got to work making the most out of Ben’s bad situation, another clip from the evening was set to overshadow them all.

The video, shared across Twitter and TikTok, sees Ben lean in to whisper something in Jennifer’s ear. While it’s unclear what was said, Jennifer can be seen jumping in her seat, tense, before she responds and ushers her husband back to his own chair. She quickly turns her attention to Trevor Noah, the show’s host, who was nearby with cameras.

“Her face when she saw the camera,” a viewer wrote of Jennifer’s response, “LOL.”

While some called for a little help from lip readers in figuring out what had transpired, most were in agreement: Jennifer was not impressed.

Ben’s situation wasn’t set to improve, with viewer commentary following his journey on what seemed to be a long, long night for the actor.

“Ben Affleck is every introvert everywhere,” tweeted one fan, “you can see his batteries draining in real time. Man is already at 23%.”

Ben Affleck is every introvert everywhere. You can see his batteries draining in real time. But if Ben’s attitude is anything to go by, that isn’t all he would like to have missed out on.

Images: Getty

Is Kyle too cruel even for Australian Idol?

Kyle Sandilands, known across Australia for his controversial no-filter commentary, has once again caused a stir with his take on one Australian Idol contestant’s audition.

Kyle, the only original cast member to return for the show’s reboot, was joined by Meghan Trainor, Harry Connick Jr, and fellow Australian Amy Shark.

Ali Morriss, a 27-year-old aged care worker from Brisbane, kicked off her audition with an unusual technique - handing out copies of her young adult novel Outside to the judges. The book is published under the pen name RA Bissmire.

Kyle’s inappropriate remark came after Ali informed the judges which song she’d be performing for her audition, Untouched by The Veronicas.

“Is it because you are untouched?” Sandilands asked.

Ali replied, “I don’t know if I can answer that.”

Kyle’s comment, which had nothing to do with Ali’s singing ability and everything to do with his “shock jock” approach to commentary, drew varied reactions from his fellow judges.

“Oh my god,” Meghan Trainor exclaimed, waving a hand in Kyle’s direction from her position next to him on the panel, “oh my god. It’s a family show.”

Amy Shark managed an uncomfortable laugh, leaning away.

Meanwhile, Harry Connick Jr did not dignify Kyle’s jab with a response, keeping his gaze down and locked on Ali’s gifted book.

Ali’s situation wasn’t set to improve, with her rendition of Untouched falling short of what the judges were searching for.

“This is a hardcore singing show,” Harry Connick Jr told her in a bid to soften the rejection, “and as lovely as you are, you’re just not ready for that.”

Amy Shark agreed with Harry’s take, telling Ali that she’d selected a difficult song in the first place, even adding, “I feel like it’s a song only the Veronicas can crush.”

It was then that Kyle chose to follow up on his initial approach to Ali’s audition, holding her book up as he told her, “I think you should go outside.”

Kyle’s attitude has left a bad taste in the mouths of many viewers, especially given the show’s approach to “respecting” their talents this season.

In a pinned tweet from January 30, producers invited the audience to join them for a “respectful season”. It appears Sandilands missed the invitation.

Here's your golden ticket to a respectful season of #AustralianIdol 💙 pic.twitter.com/t1R2gZk0XO

— Australian Idol (@AustralianIdol) January 30, 2023

People were quick to share their take on that, given Kyle’s presence on the panel, and the fact that Australian Idol was choosing to broadcast the less-than-ideal auditions in the first place.

“Lol lol lol lol lol,” began former journalist and reporter Mark Kearney, “says the show that’s platforming serial misogynist Kyle Sandilands?”

“So why put them up for public ridicule?” asked one fan.

“Except the judges are reacting and comment some terrible stuff,” wrote another, “and being straight up rude- it’s not even funny.”

One commenter took the opportunity to point out the show’s hypocrisy, posing the question to the Australian Idol account, “aren’t you using people as a platform knowing they are terrible?”

It appears that Australian Idol is shaping up to be a bumpy ride, with some noting that it hasn't changed in the 14 years since its previous seasons, surmising that it’s “back to its old ways of humiliating young people.”

Images: Getty

Karl Stefanovic and Michael Clarke caught in public scuffle over cheating claims

Australian cricket legend Michael Clarke and TV personality Karl Stefanovic have been filmed in a fight over cheating claims while holidaying in Noosa.

The incident occurred on January 10 and was released to The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday.

Clarke and Stefanovic were having dinner with their partners, Jade and Jasmine Yarbrough, when their friendly dinner was cut short as Jade confronted Clarke after she reportedly contacted the former cricketer's ex-partner Pip Edwards.

“You f**ked her on December 17 … You f**ked her, you’re a f**king dog,” Jade screamed.

Clarke vigorously denied the accusations, saying that he was with their celebrity accountant friend Anthony Bell.

"Baby, baby, Belly was at the house. I swear on my life, I swear at my life… That's not true, it's not true," he continued.

Jade refuted, saying that his ex-partner told her about it: "You're f**king lying to me. You are a piece of s**t. I just spoke to her. What is wrong with you?"

At this moment, her sister Jasmine and Stefanovic tried to intervene, which led to Clarke taking his anger out on the TV show host.

"Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don't you f**king walk away. She can, she can punch me, but not you, you c**t," Clarke said.

Jade continued to yell at Clarke and hit him.

“You piece of s**t, don’t you f**king speak to him,” she defended her brother-in-law.

Clarke insisted that Jade was wrong, to which Jade retorted: "Oh am I wrong? You f**ked her [Edwards] on December 17, you f**ked her… you're a f**king dog… I'm going to show her every f**king message you ever f**king sent me".

The video footage ended with Jasmine and Bell separating the couple.

In a statement to The Daily Telegraph, the former cricketer accepted full responsibility for his actions.

“I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position,” he said. “My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable.

“I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.”

“I own this fully and am the only one at fault.”

Clarke’s ex, Edward, also released a statement, hitting back with: “This is not my circus"

“Yet again, Michael in his true nature has not taken responsibility for his actions and I was blatantly lied to," she said.

Karl Stefanovic has yet to release a statement, with the topic being ignored on today's segment of The Today Show.

Image: Getty, The Daily Telegraph, 7News
